IDCheck: A Safer, Smarter Way to Use Shared Branching
At Ellafi Federal Credit Union, your security is a top priority. That’s why we’re working with the Co-op Shared Branch network to introduce IDCheck—a new identity verification process that helps protect you from fraud while making Shared Branch visits safer and more convenient.
What Is Shared Branching?
Shared Branching is a national network of participating credit unions that allows you to perform basic transactions at thousands of locations across the country—just like you would at Ellafi. It’s a convenient way to access your account when traveling, relocating, or simply not near an Ellafi branch.
What Is IDCheck?
Starting May 1, 2025, IDCheck will be implemented at all Shared Branch locations. As a guest member, you may be required to complete IDCheck verification before transacting on your account. Simply scan a QR code with your phone, then verify your identity with a selfie and valid ID. This added security helps protect your account and prevent fraud.
If you're visiting another credit union as a guest member, you may be asked to complete IDCheck verification before transacting—especially in the following situations:
- You’re using a state-issued ID from a different state
- You’re making a cash withdrawal over $200
- You’re visiting a Shared Branch location that is not an Ellafi branch
Please Note: If you do not verify your ID, you may experience limited access to your funds or be unable to complete certain transactions at Shared Branch locations.
How IDCheck Works
When you visit a Shared Branch, be sure to bring your smartphone and a government-issued ID. Here’s what to expect:
- Scan the QR code displayed in the branch, to visit https://verify.coop.org.
- Enter your credit union name, account number, and the last four digits of your SSN.
- Scan your ID and take a selfie for verification.
- Receive a 6-digit access code on your phone.
- Show the code to the teller to complete your transaction.
For future visits, the process is even faster with your recognized device—scan the QR code, enter your details, and get your access code instantly if your ID is valid and you’re using the same device.
Why IDCheck?
IDCheck ensures you can be positively identified at any Shared Branch location, reducing fraud while keeping transactions simple and efficient. This extra step adds security without adding hassle—just scan, verify, and do your banking with confidence.

What is IDCheck?
IDCheck is a new identity security and authentication tool, specifically designed for the Co-op Shared Branch network, that helps credit unions try to verify the identity of individuals during shared branching transactions in an attempt to reduce fraud.
Are all credit unions required to use IDCheck?
As of May 1, 2025, all credit unions in the CO-OP Shared Branch network will be required to use IDCheck to try to verify the identity of individuals using an out-of-state ID attempting withdrawal transactions (including the purchase of official checks). This requirement is aimed at addressing the most prevalent area where we observe ID-based fraud, which is with out-of-state IDs.
How does a visiting member access IDCheck?
A visiting member scans a QR code using their smart phone or smart device.
What happens if a member does not have a phone
A smart device (phone or tablet) is required for this service.
What happens if a member who was previously authenticated and opted-in to storing their validation gets a new smart device?
The member would need to go through the verification process again since IDCheck associates the verification with the device.
What happens if a member who was previously authenticated and opted-in to storing their validation has an expired ID?
The member would need to go through the verification process again with an unexpired ID.
Can military IDs be used?
Although a military ID is a valid ID in the teller line, military IDs are not supported in IDCheck due to federal prohibitions. IDCheck will reject a military ID.
What information is stored, and how is it used?
Please refer to Socure’s privacy policy: https://www.socure.com/privacy
If a visiting member does not know their account number, what do they do?
An account number is required for shared branching transactions.
